Vienna Boys’ Choir & Vienna Girls’ Choir
The Vienna Girls' Choir and Vienna Boys' Choir are the recipients of the 2024 European Cultural Award and since 2017 have been a UNESCO cultural heritage.
The Vienna Boys' Choir has a 525-year history—they have been educating children at the highest level since 1498. They are members of an organisation to which they actively contribute. Social commitment is important to them. Today there are around 100 active Vienna Boys' Choirs, divided into four concert choirs. The four equally ranked choirs share the tasks: the tours, the services in the Hofburgkapelle, the concerts and performances in Vienna and Austria, sound and film recordings as well as special projects.
The Vienna Girls' Choir was founded in 2004 as a counterpart to the Vienna Boys' Choir and accepts girls aged 9 and over who are enthusiastic about singing. Together with the Vienna Boys' Choir, they performed at the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert in 2023 and at the reopening of the Austrian Parliament.
